I have a NEW yacht, do I need to maintain it regularly? Yes, and here is why.
NEW or USED?
The simple answer is both require regular maintenance/care service, it is not uncommon for a new yacht to have more problems than a used as the new systems tend to break down due to improper installation or configuration. Luckily you have a warranty period, most manufacturers offer 5 years to cover all costs, but if things go wrong they tend to do so at the wrong place at the wrong time.
You should receive manuals and maintenance schedules for your vessel.
A recent example in 2022 is a new 44m launched in June, which caught fire on her maiden voyage. While the cause is still unknown, there a hints of a technical failure in the engine compartment. Luckily nobody got hurt and there were no contaminations reported, the vessel sank on the end.
